Sprint Shines a Light on Challenges of Organ Transplants

Sprint Waste Services is happy to shine a light on the challenges of organ disease and organ transplants by supporting a wonderful organization in Houston called Nora’s Home. As a silver sponsor of the 5th Annual Nora’s Home Golf Classic, we joined presenting sponsor Satterfield & Pontikes Construction Inc. and a long list of corporate sponsors and tournament supporters to raise $78,000 for the Nora’s Home Adopt-A-Family fund.

Nora’s Home is a hospitality home for organ failure and transplant patients traveling to receive care in the Texas Medical Center, offering patients and their families an affordable and supportive place to stay during their treatment.

In addition to the enormous health challenges patients with organ failure face, the financial and emotional challenges of lengthy treatments can be overwhelming. Funds raised during the annual golf tournament provide financial aid to low- and moderate-income guests who might not otherwise be able to afford the stay. Although 95% of families staying at Nora’s Home can only pay a nominal amount for their rooms, thanks to the success of the Adopt-A-Family program no one is ever turned away.

Nora’s Home is named for the daughter of Drs. Osama and Lillian Gaber, who was killed in an automobile accident but whose organs gave life-saving transplants to several critically ill children. Nora’s Gift Foundation, created in 1998 in Nora’s memory, eventually made Nora’s Home possible. Today Nora’s Home has a new, freestanding facility near the Texas Medical Center at 8300 El Rio Street. Built with the specific needs of transplant patients and families in mind, it includes 16 private bedrooms and baths, a fully equipped kitchen, a great room, a meditation room, a community room, an education center and free shuttle services to the medical center.
