Blanco Named to Lead Houston Safety Council

The Houston Council of Safety Professionals has named Sprint Waste Service’s Robert Blanco as its 2017–2018 chairman. The HCSP exists to promote safety within the Houston-area transportation community and to increase safe practices, efficiency and economy in all phases of commercial vehicle transportation. The organization has an estimated 200 members consisting of transportation safety professionals, law enforcement agencies and safety product professionals.

A safety manager at Sprint Waste since joining the company in 2014, Blanco has been a member of the HCSP since the mid-1990s. “I enjoy the everyday, ever-changing challenges that come with managing safety,” Blanco said. “HCSP has allowed me to meet many knowledgeable individuals who all share the same mentality.” Blanco began serving on the council’s board committees in 2015 and has been heavily involved with the organization’s annual truck driving competitions and scholarship programs.

Sprint Waste Services President Dave Nelson praised Blanco’s involvement with the group and contribution as a safety professional. “Whether at work or in the community, Robert is generous with his time and experience and always seeks to set a high bar when it comes to safety performance,” Nelson says. “We couldn’t be happier to have him on our safety team, and I’m certain Robert will bring the same dedication to his work leading the HCSP.”

Blanco added, “It is an honor working on Sprint’s safety team and being a part of the excellent reputation Sprint Waste carries. Our involvement in the Houston Council of Safety Professionals allows us to learn from and network with many area safety leaders, law enforcement and industry professionals as we discuss and debate best practices with some of the best minds in our industry. We all benefit from the collective expertise of the group.”

The HCSP is open to safety professionals such as motor fleet safety directors, safety supervisors, fleet support service representatives and related allied industry personnel, including enforcement agencies and municipalities. Among the organization’s activities are annual truck driving competitions for professional drivers, golf tournaments that provide scholarships for children of HCSP members, and numerous safety seminars throughout each year. The group meets on the second Friday of the month at Houston Community College. For more information, click here or call 713.946.4000, ext. 244.
